PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- An eyewitness to a triple homicide recounted what he saw during a bail hearing Monday for suspect Russell Burrell.

The Providence Journal said the 17-year-old witness testified that he was walking to buy candy on July 30, when he heard gunshots and saw two teenagers from his neighborhood running from a General Street home.

In October, Burrell was arraigned on three counts of murder in the deaths of Shemeeka Barros, Michael Martin, and Damien Colon that occurred on July 30. He will be tried as an adult in the murders.

The other suspect, Quandell Husband, 16, was also arraigned as an adult. Both were arrested back in August.

Police believe the shooting was the result of a targeted robbery attempt.

"These kids died way too soon and in a horrible way, and I hope justice prevails," said Mike Reilly, stepfather to one of the victims.

Monday's bail hearing is the first public testimony since Burrell and Husband waived out of family court to be tried as adults.
