PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Local celebrity athletes, including former Boston Celtics players Kevin Stacom and Ernie DiGregorio, along with state officials, helped kick off the SLAMDiabetes Wiffle Ball Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Teams competed for bragging rights, while raising awareness of juvenile Type I Diabetes.
The games were played in custom-designed wiffle ball stadiums, designed to look like Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium.
In addition to the tournament, there was a home run derby open to anyone who wanted to join.
The event also included special games for kids, food from community vendors, and a raffle.
All proceeds from the event went to help fund camp scholarships and support educational initiatives and research for a cure.
