PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Rhode Island State Police are investigating an overnight chase, in which one of their cruisers was struck.

According to police, around 2 a.m. Friday, troopers at the radar post on I-95N in Warwick clocked a car going 97 miles per hour. State police attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it fled.

The car got off the highway in Providence, and then returned back on I-95, this time heading south.

Police said the suspect vehicle's mirror clipped the mirror of the State Police cruiser. No other damage was done.

The chase went through several cities including Warwick, Cranston and Providence.

The pursuit eventually ended on Wadsworth Street in Providence just before 3 a.m. State troopers said the person inside the vehicle fled the scene.

Right now, the vehicle is in State Police custody at their headquarters.

Warwick and Providence police officers were also on the scene early Friday assisting in the investigation.
