CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - A group of Rhode Island National Guardsmen have returned home after a six-month-deployment to Afghanistan.
Emotions were running high Friday morning as nearly a dozen troops were greeted by family and friends at Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown.
Denise Brouseeau was overwhelmed with happiness.
"Thank God he is home, relieved to see him."
Major General Kevin McBride, the Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard, said the troops were part of a 40-person contingent that was deployed at Bagram Air Field for six months.
The group's mission was to protect the people, property and resources of the U.S. Air Force, as well as patrol outside the wire.
