PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Lincoln Chafee is heading to Washington to tell other governors about Rhode Island's efforts to tackle rising pension costs and aid cash-strapped municipalities.

Chafee is a featured speaker Wednesday at the National Governors Association's Summit on State Government Redesign.

Chafee's office says the independent governor intends to discuss the landmark public pension overhaul of 2011 and the state's efforts to help struggling cities like East Providence, Providence and Pawtucket, which have all struggled with rising pension costs, deficits and cash-flow crunches.

The governor also plans to detail the state's work to help Central Falls through municipal bankruptcy.
