Winter storms take toll on road signs
RIDOT says hundreds of signs damaged this month

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- This year's wintry weather is taking a hefty toll on Rhode Island's road signs.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation's Acting Administrator of Highway and Bridge Maintenance, Joe Baker, tells Eyewitness News that a few hundred DOT signs have been damaged so far in February.

According to Baker, a total of about 200 to 250 signs usually need repairs during the winter months, on average.
He estimates the cost to repair the damaged signs is at least $10,000 already this year. If that number continues to rise, RIDOT may be eligible for federal funding to help offset the cost of the repairs.
