PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Providence Mayor Angel Taveras will deliver his first State of the City address on Monday.
The Mayor will deliver the address at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Providence City Hall. The address will also be streamed lived at www.providenceri.com, and tweeted on a special Twitter account.
Taveras is expected to address the city's financial struggles - Providence is facing a $22 million budget shortfall for the fiscal year that ends this June, and a projected deficit of $30 million for next year.
The Mayor has attempted to switch city retirees' benefits from Blue Cross to Medicare - a move which a court blocked and could be headed to the Rhode Island Supreme Court - and has asked the city's colleges and universities to contribute more.
