PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Dozens of local middle schoolers are getting a head start on their college costs.
The non-profit group "Read to Succeed" awarded $46,000 in college scholarships to 46 eighth graders at the Community Preparatory School in Providence.
The students earned the awards by reading six books over the summer and passing a comprehensive test.
Along with the scholarships, each student was awarded a certificate of completion and a new dictionary.
Read to Succeed was formed in 2008 to address the problem of summer learning loss. For more information or to donate, visit their website.
