PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Monday was Inauguration Day, marking the start of President Barack Obama's second term, and Southern New Englanders were among the millions watching the festivities that took place all day in Washington.
The Rhode Island Democratic Party held a watch party at Rick's Roadhouse on Richmond Street in Providence.
Among those taking part in the event was RI General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, who praised the messages in the president's inaugural address.
"It's an everybody message," she said. "We're all in this together, and for our children to have a bright future, for the elderly who are with us today to grow old with dignity, we all have a role to play to make that happen."
As Rhode Islanders viewed the celebration here in the Ocean State, more than 150 Portsmouth High School students were given the unique opportunity to perform at the event in Washington.
