PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police say a series of shootings and weapons arrests in the city since November is the result of an ongoing feud between local Asian gangs.
Police Maj. Thomas Oates III tells The Providence Journal that the rivalry has caused 17 incidents of shootings, shots fired and people arrested with guns.
Police say the gang feud led to violence last weekend, when three people were shot and two houses were fired upon in a six-hour span. No arrests have been made in those incidents.
Oates says police are stepping up enforcement to try to put a stop to the gang fighting.
