PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A troubled Providence social service agency that filed for receivership last year is reorganizing as a new entity with a new executive director.
Providence Community Action, or ProCAP, says Melissa Husband will serve as executive director of the new nonprofit, Community Action Partnership of Providence. Officials say the new organization is at the center of the receiver's plan for the community action program to emerge from court protection.
Husband was hired in May as ProCAP's program director and worked at Rhode Island Housing before that.
ProCAP, which provides services to the poor, was the subject of a critical audit last year. Mayor Angel Taveras cited "staggering mismanagement." It filed for receivership last December.
A new board of trustees for the new organization has also been formed.
