PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The old Shooters nightclub will serve as a construction yard -- at least temporarily.

The Providence Journal reports that a request from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to lease the site on the Providence waterfront for use as a temporary construction yard was approved Tuesday.

The site on India Street will be used for storage for a year during the second phase of a sewer project of the Narragansett Bay Commission.

DEM is accepting proposals for the site's permanent redevelopment for public use. The deadline to submit proposals is Oct. 30.

The old nightclub was demolished last year. The property had been unused since 2001.
