National Grid fixing payroll problem

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- National Grid is working with its utility workers' union to resolve complaints from employees who have not been fully compensated for their work restoring power following Superstorm Sandy.

The utility company's spokesperson, David Graves, confirmed Wednesday that several thousand National Grid workers were not paid the full amount for overtime or regular time work because of problems with complicated new payroll system.  

It was not clear exactly how many Rhode Island workers were affected, but Graves says it appeared to be a small number.

Graves tells Eyewitness News that all affected workers will be fully compensated as soon as possible.

The Rhode Island Attorney General's office confirms that Local 310 of the Utility Workers of America brought the matter to the attention of Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, but as of Wednesday evening the union had not filed a formal complaint.
