Fire forces 3 families from their homes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A late-night fire forced eight people out of their homes. It started just before midnight Thursday in the first floor of a multi-family home on Glenham Street.

Investigators said the flames also caused damage to the house next door.

Everyone inside was able to escape safely. Some were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross is assisting eight people, five adults and three children in three families, by providing them with temporary lodging and personal care items, as well as financial help with food and clothing.

Firefighters are still searching for a cause.
