PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The city of Providence admits that it still has a significant deficit -- in fact, it's bigger than Mayor Angel Taveras's administration expected.

The mayor's office was originally figuring the city would have a deficit of $23,134 in fiscal year 2011.

But as of June 30, when the fiscal year ended, the city's deficit was $4.96 million.

The final numbers were presented to the Finance Committee Tuesday night.

The city's director of administration told the Finance Committee about $4.7 million in additional bills came in just as the fiscal year was ending, according to The Providence Journal.
