College honors MLK with day of service
PC students, staff clean-up Central Falls school

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) -- Dozens of students and staff from Providence College performed community service at a local Catholic school Monday, to help honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
About 30 students volunteered to help spruce up the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy in Central Falls as part of the MLK Day of Service.
"He's known for the civil rights movement, but he had a heart for service," explained Elena Yee, Providence College Director of Multi-Cultural Activities. "As he said, we can all serve."
The student volunteer activity is also part of President Barack Obama's national call to service initiative. Students from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy joined in the effort.
"Getting people involved is critical," said St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy principal Doreen Engel. "Both for our country and for their happiness. If you look around, these kids are enjoying themselves. They need to understand that service is joyful."
