PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Two Rhode Island lawmakers are launching another attempt to strengthen state laws prohibiting racial profiling.

State Reps. Grace Diaz and Joseph Almeida plan to detail their proposal Monday at the Statehouse.

It would put new rules in place for police when they pull over a vehicle or search someone, specifically requiring them to report in writing the reasons they search a vehicle, motorist of pedestrian.

Similar legislation has failed in the General Assembly in recent years after police organizations voiced concerns that new requirements could tie the hands of officers.
