PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The resignation of the Providence Housing Authority's executive director was made public Thursday night, and we've learned that he'll be receiving a severance package.
According to our news partners at the Providence Journal , former director Stephen O'Rourke will be receiving severance worth about about $250,000, and may include health benefits until O'Rourke is eligible for Medicare.
The authority's Board of Commissioners accepted O'Rourke's resignation following a number of closed-door meetings surrounding the fraud and sexual harassment charges that he's currently facing.
O'Rourke has been on paid leave since April, following a city investigation into the allegations. He tells the paper that the investigation has exonerated him and he hopes to move on.
Former Rhode Island General Treasurer Paul Tavares will serve as interim executive directory of the agency.
