PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Providence Police are investigating an attempted abduction near Roger Williams Park on Saturday.

Police tell Eyewitness News the alleged incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. near 1000 Elmwood Avenue.

A woman reported she was in the park near the tennis courts when she noticed a light blue minivan in the area.

The woman told police the man appeared to be in his 40's and that she noticed blankets and rope in the van when the vehicle's side door was open.

The man began to walk behind the woman and her son and then tried to grab the boy.

The woman said she yelled and the man ran off.

Police say there were no witnesses but have found the woman's story to be credible.
