PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Providence Mayor Angel is set to deliver his annual state-of-the-city address.
Taveras is scheduled to deliver his remarks on Tuesday evening at City Hall in the City Council chamber.
The first-term Democrat has largely stabilized the capital city's finances after facing a $110 million deficit. He won more in voluntary payments from the Providence's tax-exempt institutions, including universities and hospitals.
He also negotiated settlements with unions and retirees that freeze pensions and make other health benefit changes.
The mayor says the agreements have helped avert a "near-certain" municipal bankruptcy and staved off costly litigation.
Taveras was sworn in as the city's first Hispanic mayor in 2011.
