PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island's largest public workers union has a new contract with the state.
Governor Lincoln Chafee signed the new state master contract with Council 94 Tuesday.
It freezes pay raises and health insurance co-payments for one year.
"I am pleased to sign this new contract, which will ensure the continuation of the excellent services of Council 94 members - services on which the people of Rhode Island depend," Governor Chafee said in a press release.
The deal calls for both sides to return to the bargaining table late this year or early next year.
Council 94 represents about 4,000 active state employees.
