"Gear for Grades" held throughout RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Thousands of Children lined up to get free backpacks filled with school supplies on Saturday.

The event called “Gear for Grades” started nine years ago and is designed to give young children backpacks and other schools supplies that they may not be able to afford otherwise.

Around 15-thousand backpacks were distributed by community volunteers at 11 locations statewide.
