PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rescue crews rush to a building fire in Providence Wednesday night.

Eyewitness News responded to the scene at 618 Cranston Street where the blaze broke out at a vacant building.

The fire reached a second-alarm before being knocked down by firefighters.

Fire officials say they that as of 9pm there were still crews on scene wetting down and cleaning up.  Traffic on Cranston Street is still restricted until they finish.

Deputy Fire Chief James Mirza said no one was injured but the commercial building, which has been vacant for several years, is a total loss.

Mirza also said a lightning strike was responsible for a fire at 84 Daboll Street earlier Wednesday afternoon.  That fire was on the roof of a building, and nobody was injured in that incident either.
