PROVIDENCE, R.I (WPRI) – With temperature dropping below freezing people are being advised to stay indoors, but many people have to where to go.
Crossroads Rhode Island tells Eyewitness News that they are filled to capacity and then some.
Staff members say they have seen about a 25% increase in drop ins and on Monday they served more the 100 people.
Thursday night people were lined up outside seeking shelter from the cold, food, a place to shower and do laundry.
Crossroads only has 61 shelter beds available on any given night but since the cold hit they have had to turn the community room into a make shift shelter.
The agency says they never turn anyone away and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to folks of all ages.
