PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A cross set up on an island on Pleasant Valley Parkway in Providence has been moved.

Peter Montequila, the owner of Finest Car Wash, set up the cross with the words "God Bless America," on the "Adopt a Spot" island across from his car wash.

Steve Ahlquist, president of the Humanists of Rhode Island, originally complained the cross violated the Constitution and wrote a letter to Mayor Angel Taveras, asking that it be taken down.

Eyewitness News has learned the cross now stands on the car wash's property.

Our news partners at the Providence Journal report that Montequila moved the cross in an effort to keep the city from having any trouble.
