PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island economic development officials have announced $2.7 million in grants to support a range of renewable energy projects in the state.

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation said Thursday the grants will support 16 projects planned by businesses, municipalities and community organizations aimed at increasing energy efficiency and developing renewable energy sources.

One recipient, the city of East Providence, is receiving $100,000 for a project to redevelop an old landfill as a solar farm.

Jamestown will receive nearly $118,000 for a wind turbine project.

Bryant University's business center is getting more than $123,000 for an energy efficiency review of all the state's public high schools.

The EDC's Renewable Energy Fund will administer the grants.
