PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) - A Rhode Island state police official says more arrests are expected in Operation Deception ; the same drug investigation that's already produced charges against three Providence police officers.
Capt. David Neill said Thursday that the state police and attorney general's office are continuing their investigation and expect more arrests within weeks.
Three officers; Sgt. Steven Gonsalves, Narcotics Detective Joseph Colanduano, and Patrolman Robert Hamlin; were arrested last week along with three other suspects. Gonsalves is the former driver for Mayor David Cicilline, and Hamlin is a school resource officer.
They're accused of participating in a cocaine-dealing operation.
Colanduano and Hamlin are being held without bail following their arraignments. Gonsalves was released after posting bail, and is awaiting arraignment.
Four other police officers have been placed on administrative duty, but have not been charged.
Neill would not say whether more officers would be arrested.
