Prison time reduced from 30 years to 1 day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) - A local salon owner's sentence has been cut down to one day behind bars and six months of home confinement.

Tashia Bodden of Providence, owner of Fascination Salon, was facing up to 30 years in prison for participating in a $1.7 million mortage scame.

She was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court to one day in jail, three years of probation, and six months of home confinement. She was also fined $3,000 after pleading guilty to bank fraud.

Prosecutors say one of Bodden's friends bought foreclosed properties, then persuaded others to have mortgages taken out in their names to purchase the houses at higher prices. Those victims were left with loans in default.

Bodden allegedly provided the mortgage lenders with false pay stubs and tax forms that made it appear that the buyers worked at her salon.

Bodden says she made a bad decision to help someone she once considered a friend.
