SEEKONK, Mass. (WPRI) -- Police in Seekonk received a call on Sunday reporting a man seen carrying a rifle in the area of Stop & Shop on Highland Avenue.

Around 3:50 p.m., Seekonk Police, Massachusetts State Police and East Providence Police responded to the area to investigate.

An armed man was not located but a man carrying an umbrella was momentarily detained.

The umbrella was long and dark colored, but the man's description did not match that of the reported armed subject.

After the area search and as a precaution, seven stores in the plaza were evacuated and searched by officers.

No one fitting the description of the armed subject was ever found.
