NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WPRI) - The holiday shopping season has arrived in Southern New England.
Shoppers gathered outside the Target in North Attleborough, and other local retailers Thanksgiving night, hoping to be the first to score those popular Black Friday deals.
Candice Grenon of Pawtucket was the first in line at the Toys R Us store across Route 1, arriving at 4:30 Thursday afternoon. She was looking for a special toy.
"Rock star Mickey Mouse, my little one loves Mickey Mouse, and it's normally $59.99 and it's on sale for 19 bucks tonight, so it's definitely worth it," Grenon said, "It's worth the 6 or 7 hours that I'm going to be sitting here."
Candice was not the only mom shopping for Christmas presents. Kayla O'Brien was also waiting outside the toy store to get her hands on discounts. She said she would be prepared.
"My boyfriend is coming now to drop off the extra blankets, jackets and heat packs,"
There were some tensions outside the Best Buy in Seekonk, as an argument broke out between customers.
"Every once in a while you get people running at you and fighting, but that's really it. I mean, it's typical Black Friday," one shopper said.
Unlike other parts of the country, stores in Rhode Island and Massachusetts were unable to open on Thanksgiving Day, because of so called "blue laws" in both states.
