FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) -- Fall River police held an event today to celebrate getting more than 3,000 guns off of city streets.
Since the gun buyback program began in 1994, the department has collected and destroyed a total of 3,023 guns.
Former presidential candidate and Mass. Gov. Michael Dukakis was presented with a plaque at the event, which took place at the Fall River Police Department.
Mayor Will Flanagan and Chief Daniel Racine were also in attendance.
