FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) -- In response to the recent "holiday tree" controversy surrounding RI Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan has invited all Rhode Islanders to attend the city's Christmas tree-lighting ceremony.

The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the city's government center.

We're told the tree in question stands a whopping 45 feet tall and weighs over 9,000 pounds.

Mayor Flanagan tells us that the ceremony will be the culmination of a full day of festivities, and encourages all to attend.

For more information about the tree-lighting, contact Mayor Will Flanagan at (508) 324-2600.
