Local man helping NY Sandy victims

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) -- An Attleboro man who witnessed first-hand the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in New York is taking it upon himself to help storm victims in need.

"I've never seen so much rubbish and everybody's lives in the middle of the street. It's cars, boats, furniture, clothes," said Kevin Walsh, recalling his trip to Rockaway Beach, New York last weekend.

"Everybody's life is just gone. That's all they have is life. They don't have anything else."

During his visit to the disaster area, Walsh handed out supplies to those affected by the storm.  Upon returning home, he decided more needed to be done.

"I came back and decided I had to go back for more."

Now he is collecting donations of essential supplies, like blankets and clothing, and loading them onto a U-Haul truck.  Walsh plans to fill the truck completely, and deliver the supplies to New York.

"Got a truck, got some things made up and we're going for it. Believe me, this thing will be full."

Donations are being accepted at the Dunkin' Donuts on South Main Street in Attleboro through Saturday, November 10.
