2 Oscars for RI-linked 'Crazy Heart'

LOS ANGELES (WPRI) - "Crazy Heart," the film based on a novel by a Rhode Island author, picked up two Academy Awards Sunday night.

The film tells the story of a struggling country musician, Bad Blake, as he looks to redeem himself and try to regain his past stardom.

Jeff Bridges won the Oscar for best actor in a leading role for his portrayal of Blake.

The film was also awarded best original song for "The Weary Kind" (Theme from Crazy Heart).

The film was based on a novel written by Thomas Cobb , who is an English professor at Rhode Island College.
