CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) - The Rhode Island State Police have arrested a school teacher for allegedly providing alcohol to students.

According to Captain Michael Winquist, 22-year-old Emma Wise of Providence is facing several charges.

Police say they received a complaint about the first year chemistry teacher at Central Falls High School on January 24th.

An investigation revealed that back in October 2011, Wise drove several students to a liquor store in Pawtucket and purchased alcohol, police said.

Officers say Wise then drank the alcohol with the same underage kids at a local park. Some of the students were reportedly 15 and 16-years-old.

Wise has been charged with procurement of alcohol beverages for underage persons and contributing to the delinquency of a person under 16-years-old.

The school department issued a statement to Eyewitness News regarding Wise's arrest saying,"

"We are aware that the investigation has concluded and that charges have been filed. The teacher was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and has resigned. Our staff and school community are disheartened by this situation, but proud of the students who came forward and cooperated with police so that the matter could be investigated and resolved appropriately."

She was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Wise was released on $1,000 personal recognizance and has a pre-trial conference scheduled for March 2.
