EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A RIPTA bus driver has been arrested and charged with first- and second- degree sexual assault.
East Providence Police tell Eyewitness News that officers arrested Ivan Calderon, 55, Friday after they obtained an arrest warrant.
Calderon is accused of assaulting a 41-year old female passenger while he was on duty.
Calderon was arraigned at the East Providence Police station Saturday morning and was sent to the ACI where he was ordered held without bail.
He’s been formally suspended from his RIPTA job.
He appeared in Providence District Court Monday morning where bail was set at $25,000 with surety.
Police said Calderon has an extensive criminal record out of both Rhode Island and New York. It was revealed in court that Calderon has 13 different aliases.
