PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Less than two weeks ago it was a chaotic scene on General Street in Providence where three victims were found shot to death.

Providence police announced Thursday they've now made an arrest in connection with the murders.

One of the victims' mothers told Eyewitness News the arrest gives her some relief, but not closure, as a teenager is being held waiting arraignment on a charge of murder.

The victims, Shemeeka Barros, 22, Michael Martin, 23, and Damien Colon, 22, were found dead inside a Maplewood Terrace Apartment on July 30. Three children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but police said they were in another room and were found unhurt.

Police arrested an unidentified teenager Thursday morning. That suspect is being held at the state training school.

The mother of one of the victims shared a statement with Eyewitness News regarding the arrest.

“We are deeply hurt by the loss of our son Damien. We are pleased the Providence Police has worked diligently to apprehend those responsible. We look forward to more arrests. Damien, Shemeeka and Mike all deserve justice,” said Liz Colon, mother of Damien Colon.

The juvenile’s arraignment is scheduled for Friday in family court. Police have not confirmed if any other arrests have been made.

The homicide investigation is still active and ongoing at this time.
