CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) - Central Falls police announced two serious arrests Friday: a violent stabbing suspect and an alleged fugitive from justice.

Police: Man stabs mother, tries to flee state

A Central Falls man is being held without bail for stabbing his own mother multiple times.

Police said Jesus Vazquez, 29, stabbed his mother at their home on Wetmore Street Thursday afternoon just after 3:00 p.m. Rescue crews found Maria Marquez, 52, bleeding profusely from several stab wounds. They rushed her to Rhode Island Hospital for emergency treatment.

During their investigation, Central Falls detectives determined Vazquez was heading out of state, and had headed to a bus terminal in Newport to catch a ride. They alerted Newport Police, who swiftly arrested him.

Vazquez was arraigned on charges of domestic assault with a deadly weapon, and is being held at the ACI in Cranston without bail.

C.F. fugitive collared in Pawtucket

Then, Friday afternoon, police in Pawtucket arrested a fugitive from justice wanted in Central Falls. Antone Williams, 23, is accused of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm while being a fugitive from justice, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Prior to the arrest, he was already wanted on three bench warrants from a Superior Court: possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, assault with a deadly weapon, and jumping bail from a 2008 case in Central Falls where he was suspected of being the triggerman in a near-fatal shooting.

The victim, William Barrome, was in the hospital in critical condition after the shooting.

Central Falls Police had stopped Williams as he was driving on Tuesday night, but he took off -- abandoning a 9mm firearm during the pursuit, according to officers.

Det. Capt. James Mendonca said in a news release Friday afternoon that a task force was assembled, composed of Central Falls Police, Pawtucket Police, Rhode Island State Police's Violent Fugitive Task Force, the U.S. Marshals Service and Special Agents from the ATF.

Williams will be arraigned over the weekend on the brand new charges.
