PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island's nearly broke Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund will receive nearly $8 million from the federal government.
The state is suffering from one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, 12.5 percent, providing a heavy strain on the insurance fund.
Meanwhile, a new study by the American Legislative Exchange Council doesn't provide good news about Rhode Island's economy. It ranks the state among the worst six states in the nation for economic health.
Still, the report ranks Rhode Island at 33rd for economic performance based on personal income, domestic migration and payroll growth.
