PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Sandwiched between summer vacations and holiday parties, autumn may not seem like the best time to travel. Although, since it's a slow time of year, passengers can get a big bang for their buck.

For those of you who hit the roads or take to the skies during this "shoulder season", you can always find some great deals. We've got great tips on finding fall getaways on a budget.

"After Labor Day weekend, before the Thanksgiving holiday, when the crowds are at a minimum but the temperatures are still mild, hotels are looking to fill their rooms so travelers can take advantage of great deals, from Orlando to Las Vegas," said Orbitz Senior Editor Jeanenne Tornatore.

In addition to big travel destinations, the experts at travel website Orbitz say the Caribbean can be a great fall bargain. A getaway to an East Coast beach town can also fit into any budget.

"Places like Charlestown, South Carolina, all these busy East Coast towns all the way up to Martha's Vineyard, you're not going to see the crowds because it's not 80-90 degrees outside anymore," Tornatore added.

For big cities like New York or Chicago, head for hotels in the financial district on weekends.

"They're full of business travelers during the week and prices are at their peak. One the weekends, however, these hotels are looking to fill their rooms," she added. "So the leisure travelers that will come in will save more by staying in these business districts rather than staying in the theater or shopping areas."

Booking packages that include air fare, hotel, and rental car can also trim some costs.
