Cicilline, Doherty push for last votes

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) -- Freshman Democratic Rep. David Cicilline and Republican challenger Brendan Doherty have spent the weekend stumping for every last vote in their heated and bitter race to represent Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District.

Cicilline on Sunday brought in former Democratic Congressman Patrick Kennedy, whom he succeeded two years ago. Joining them were Kennedy's wife, Amy, and their baby, Owen, as Cicilline toured senior housing projects around the northern part of the state.

Sen. Jack Reed also stumped for Cicilline, telling elderly voters in Woonsocket that sending a Republican to Congress from Rhode Island would "give the keys to the car" to the "tea party crowd."

Doherty shook hands with voters at an Armenian food festival in Providence. He says he feels momentum has swung his way.
