(FOX Providence) - Many colleges have begun the process of going green on campus, and Roger Williams University is no exception.
The school's new roof garden features a drainage system, native plants, and unique artwork, sits 3 stories high above campus over looking the bay. The students maintain the environmentally friendly garden themselves.
The roof gardens, which are beginning to really take off in cities like New York and Chicago, actually act as an insulator to help lower heating costs and also conserve.
Roger Williams University is very excited about the versatility of options the roof will provide for students.
Environmental Specialist Charles Carberry from Ecotope joined the Rhode Show to talk more about the green movement.
