(FOX Providence) - A new show is taking the stage at The Courthouse Center for the Arts in Washington County, and its based on an award-winning novel.
Co-directors of "The Giver", Tonia Klemp and Tammy Brown, joined The Rhode Show to talk more about the production.
The Giver is a Newbury Award winning novel about a young boy named Jonas who, in his twelfth year, is given the job assignment to be the next Reciever of Memory.
In a society that has eliminated pain, suffering, emotion, music, and colour, the Giver and Jonas shoulder the burden of carrying the memories of the past.
This utopian world of Sameness isen't as perfect as it seems and soon Jonas, through the Giver and the knowledge imparted on him, realizes that his society is flawed. This realization causes him to question whether he should stay with the community and his family or should he run away and live a full life?
"The Giver" is on stage through May 22.
