(FOX Providence) - Domestic violence is an issue that impacts many local women. But this weekend, in South County, South County Domestic Violence Resource Center and the Courthouse Center for the Arts have teamed up to bring awareness to this important cause.
Saturday, March 13 they'll be using a race to bring awareness to domestic violence against women. After the race there will be prizes handed out to the winners and then the Courthouse Center for the Arts will open its doors revealing numerous new pieces of art.
Also, aspiring young playwrights from 25 area schools will see their productions performed live on stage.
Along with educating and making people aware of this problem, the center will help house those who are stranded due to domestic violence and provide legal assistance to victims.
Some of the art work on display to help raise awareness was done by children who've been directly affected by domestic violence.
The 5k run starts at 9 a.m. and is the main event. But, at 8:30 a.m. there will be a walk for peace.
