Eclectic Providence band performs

(FOX Providence) - As part of the “I Heart Providence” event, a local Providence band called “ Miss Wensday and The New Medicinals performs .” Their eclectic sound is a mixture of rock and roll, cabaret, trip hop, blues, jazz, and tango.

The song they sang on The Rhode Show is called “You don’t make sense.”

Wensday returned to Providence after a three year stint in Phoenix where she recorded the critically acclaimed album, Torch Rock (Desert Dreams Music), with music industry legend, guitarist/songwriter Dick Wagner (Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Kiss, Aerosmith, Air Supply).

Torch Rock showcased Wensday’s soulful pipes and songwriting talents that garnered her accolades far and wide. Torch Rock was on the 2007 Grammy Ballot in nine categories including “Best Pop Vocal,” Best Blues Vocal,” and Record of the Year.” On Torch Rock, Wensday does a searing cover of Alice Cooper’s “Only Woman Bleed” which was co-written by Wagner to bring renewed attention to the song’s enduring theme of empowering women to overcome the cycle of domestic violence.

Called “the other girl next door” by Cooper, who invited Wensday to play his annual Christmas Pudding concert alongside the likes of Don Felder, Stephen Stills, and Tesla. The genesis of The New Medicinals came when Wensday met guitarist Mark Anderson in Providence and was immediately impressed with both his technique and versatility to tackle any musical genre. Anderson recruited Marco LeClerc to brings his expertise on keyboards/organ and Alex Chapman to provide the beat on the drums.

Starting initially as a crazy idea Wensday had about being Klezmerachis, the band’s sound evolved to bridge the old world jazz and modern blues with originals like “I'm Special” and “You Don’t Make Sense.” Wensday is also currently working on a trip hop album with hip-step pioneer DJ I-Cue from which some of the material like the bluesy chestnut “Widow” has seeped into The Medicinals’ repertoire.
