NEW YORK (FOX Providence) - We're on the Rhode, and on the water in a rafting adventure that, once tried, may just suck you in too.
Maybe it's the fact it is, by all accounts, an extreme sport.
But there's something about whitewater rafting that turns
devotees, almost fanatical.
Dozens of rafting companies surround the Hudson and Indian Rivers of upstate New York, catering to adventure seekers from early April, through Columbus Day.
"We have different levels April 1st to May 15 is a high level of rapids, and then as the summer progresses the water gets warmer, and I guess you could say less challenging, but still a ton of fun," said Mad Pup, a rafting guide.
Rafters navigate 17 miles, through often-rough waters.
Holly Nieves, a whitewater rafter said, "It's adventurous, it's challenging, there's teamwork involved. It's a good time."
A good time, even for those who are more inclined toward dry land, than to be wet behind the ears.
"We're all like, we don't do this! We don't know what we're doing, but we're having a blast doing it!" said Michelle DeLeonardis, another rafter.
Whitewater rafting is offered throughout New England, including a few locations in Rhode Island. The cost to raft is usually less than $199 per person.
