(FOX Providence) - Back pain is something that has plagued Americans for years. And not every pain is the same.
"Well they could have degenerative disc disease, facet joint problems, sciatica, low back pain, neck pain," Dr. Jeffrey Leverone.
However, at Spine & Sport Rehab Center in Norton, Massachusetts, they have begun a program focused on spinal decompression that can assist in alleviating your pain, and helping to ensure it doesn't return.
"Spinal decompression relieves the pressure on the spinal discs, which allows the disc to absorb the fluid and nutrients essential for the health and the repair to the discs," said Leverone.
One of the keys of their program is a piece of equipment called the DRX9000, which allows for spinal decompression without surgery. And it does it much more comfortably than the "traction" method of yesteryear.
"Traction is just a pull and a hold. It doesn't matter how the patient is responding to the treatment, the traction remains the same. It can cause muscle spasms and can be very uncomfortable for the patient. Whereas decompression therapy, it's very comfortable, and patients actually fall asleep on the table."
What makes the DRX9000 different is a computer system that monitors the pull you receive. Any movement of the patient is picked up by the machine, and the pull is changed accordingly, allowing for a comfortable experience. The average treatment calls for 24 visits, and is combined with a full program that allows complete back therapy all under one roof.
"What we are doing here that's different is that we are
combining decompression therapy, physical therapy, and spinal
manipulation, to address all the problems that go with a lot of
disc injuries. We are the only ones in the area that are utilizing
all three into this program."
