The Couch Potato Diet

We're cooking with Greg Ladas, author of The Couch Potato Diet in The Rhode Show kitchen.

The meals Greg demonstrates are designed to be healthy and convenient to prepare, taste great, and maintain your love for foods like breakfast burritos and sausage&pepper sandwiches (in order to avoid the temptations of unhealthy fast food).

His book provides a road map for all meals and snacks like this including nachos, pizza, pasta, burgers, chips, cookies, candy, ice cream, and more!

Ingredients for breakfast, lunch, and dinner:

Package of Lightlife™ Soy Sausage or Turkey Sausage
1 carton of Better’n Eggs™ (fat free and cholesterol free egg product)
Package of Perdue Short Cuts™ (turkey)
2 Bell Peppers (or bag of diced frozen peppers)
1 Package of Galaxy Nutritional Veggie Shreds™ or Sargento™ Reduced-fat Cheese
Package of Mission Carb Control-balance™ tortillas
Package of Josephs™ reduced carb wraps
Package of frozen veggies- cauliflower and broccoli
Package of Fresh Express™ salad with veggies

Alternate lunch or dinner smoothie

Trader Joes™ Vanilla Soy Protein Powder
Joseph’s Maltitol Sweetener from Joseph’s Lite Cookies™
Package of Dole™ frozen blueberries

Condiments
French’s™ yellow mustard
Frank’s Redhot™
Kens Steak House Light Accents™ salad spray
McCormick Bac’n Pieces™
Smart Balance™ Light Spread
Morton’s™ Lite salt
Extra virgin olive oil
Onion Powder

Snacks
- Josephs Lite Cookies
- Trader Joe’s Soy Tortilla Chips
- Glenny’s™ Soy crisps
- Shelled sunflower seeds or peanuts

Method:
- Start to cut up the package of soy sausage into coin sized pieces.
- Start to dice the peppers (or thaw the frozen peppers in the microwave).
- Open the package of frozen veggies and start to heat on the stove or microwave to thaw.
- Finish cutting soy sausage into coin sized pieces.
- Finish dicing the peppers (or strain the thawed frozen peppers in the microwave).
- Sauté the sausage and peppers in a pan with a little extra virgin olive oil. Add two teaspoons of onion powder.
- Open the package of Perdue short cuts and sauté in a pan with a little extra virgin olive oil.
- Strain the cauliflower and broccoli (frozen veggies).
- Open the container of eggs, add a little olive oil to the pan, and scramble the eggs adding two finger full scoops of the veggie shreds and two-three spoonfuls of sausage and peppers as you scramble the eggs.
