Providence celebrating tree lighting

'Benefit Street Holiday' kicks of festive season

(FOX Providence) - The city of Providence will be celebrating its holiday tree lighting this weekend. Saturday's event will be held downtown and will begin on historic Benefit Street .

A parade will also take the festivities to the Bank of America Skating Center, where The Rhode Show's Michaela Johnson will join Mayor Angel Taveras at 5:45 p.m. in lighting the city's tree.

The celebration will feature tours of historic homes, and will also include fun for the kids, including decorating gingerbread cookies, hay rides and holiday pet parade.
