Bay Colony Dog Show returns to RI

Thousands of dogs will strut their stuff

(FOX Providence) - One of the oldest and most prestigious sporting events in North America, The Bay Colony Dog Show and Canine Pet Expo brings a more than 100-year-old tradition to the Rhode Island Convention Center December 8-11, 2011.

The Bay Colony Dog Show and Canine Expo is a four-day show, with each day is hosted by three prestigious New England American Kennel Club (AKC) organizations.

The show attracts over 5,000 entries, 40 holiday shopping vendors and public service booths, and 8,000 spectators (note: pet dogs are not allowed).

WEEKEND DEMONSTRATIONS:-

- "Meet the Breeds" - a great place to meet the nation's top purebred dogs and reputable breeders while learning more about a handful of breeds' history, standards, and unique qualities.
-- "Training You To Train Your Dog" - expert dog trainers share tips on dog training and answer questions.
-- Daily Agility Demonstrations - Agility expert Lois Tolley of Ivoryton, CT demonstrates the art and science of agility with Mia, a Flat-Coated Retriever, and Phoenix, a Finnish Lapphund, and answering questions about one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. (Note: Agility trials are not available at this year's show, but you can find out more about how to get involved in the sport.)
-- Frisbee Demonstrations by Yankee Flyers Dog and Disc Club
-- Nosework Demonstrations by Masterpeace Dog Training of Franklin, MA
-- Police K-9 dog demonstration by the Plymouth (MA) County Sheriff's Dept., thanks to Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog
